Before our trip to California, Kyler and I took the youth of our ward to Lake Powell for Youth Conference! It was so crazy. Pretty much everything went wrong (things flying out of our trailer on the way down, boats breaking down, just chaos) and it was pretty hard at first.
Kyler and I felt like we were failing and letting everyone down. We had just wanted to give the youth a fun, cool experience but it was blowing up in our faces. Then, half way when we were dropping off one leader and picking up some new ones, we ran into an older couple who were house boat sitting for some friends and their family had just left. They had helped us start our houseboat on Tuesday and so Kyler was talking with them when we got back to shore. They said they had nothing to do until Saturday and they offered to take us and our youth around on their boat which was so nice of them. They also came up with a great idea for a cool spiritual experience for the kids (the tree of life) and even fixed our motor boat that had been broken so we could keep taking the kids around on the boat once they had to leave. It was truly miraculous to have run into them and it felt really amazing to see God take care of our needs. It was like He gave us and the youth an even better experience by everything going wrong and then meeting people who could fill in the gaps of what we needed, because it showed us in a really blatant way how God is aware of us and will take care of us. So despite everything going wrong, it was an amazing trip!
And besides all of those things, it was still really fun. We swam a lot, played some fun Minute to Win it games, had some fun floaties, went canoeing, did a little cliff or houseboat jumping, did some tubing, watched a movie projected off of the rocks, had some great devotionals and then even had a dance night. ha ha Kyler and I love these kids so much and are so grateful for the opportunity we have to hang out with them. And the leaders who came were top notch and we’re so grateful to know the people we do.
